    • Trivia
Willem Dafoe described the makeup process, "Four hours in, two hours out every day - I'm showing up at three o'clock in the morning, sitting in the chair, meditating and trying to deal with standing still. You can't sleep because it's intricate enough that you've got to work with the people applying it. It's a grind, but I liked working with a mask in there - quite literally, a mask."
    • Goofs
When Bella returns to London to visit the dying Godwin; she gets off the carriage and closes the door with her empty right hand. However in the next immediate cut when the carriage drives away, she is now holding her luggage with the right hand. In addition in the preceding black and white scene, she is holding the bag with her left hand.
    • Quotes

Bella Baxter: [on the wailing infant] I must go punch that baby.

    • Crazy credits
The opening and closing credits are shown as a frame around the image.
    • Alternate versions
UK version was cut in one sex scene to secure an "18" rating. The cut(s) were made to this scene because it was in the presence of children within in the movie. Under UK law, this could be illegal and therefore required removal before being shown at cinemas or distributed within the country.

While I obviously love the movie, I think there is just tonnes to appreciate about it. From the set design to the make-up and hairstyling of the actors. There is a lot to dig in and analyse ranging from the feminism (?) displayed to the significance of the locations and the characters inhabiting them. But this review will shy away of that approach in lieu of a more direct reflection of my experience with the movie. I watched first in Zurich via the ZFF in September and loved it. More than I would have expected. I think I got most of what I was to get from the movie in the first watch. Then I watched it again in February upon release in Turkey with someone special. We talked about the movie afterwards, and while I had thought I had gotten all that I could from the first watch, watching the movie with someone I loved made it all the better.
